Although the sun is setting a bit earlier each day, summer isn’t over yet and Snowmass Village has a packed schedule of events for August.
The Snowmass Tourism Department has a host of events, new and returning, in August, including a community ice cream social and the return of the JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience.
New this summer is a community ice cream social, which will take place Friday, Aug. 2. From 3:30-5:30 p.m., people can head to Snowmass Town Park for a community gathering featuring free ice cream from The Dreamery, lawn games, and more.
An additional ice cream social will take place Sept. 6.
Also new this summer is the Snowmass Americana music series. It features local bands playing a range of Americana genres like bluegrass, folk, and country. The free shows will take place at 7 p.m. Aug. 3 and Aug. 10 at the Rock Garden Stage on the Snowmass Mall.
Slay and Stinson will play Aug. 3 and Jake Leg will play on Aug. 10.
Returning to Snowmass this August is the Plein Air Art Festival Aug. 10-11. It is returning for its third consecutive year.
Twenty artists were selected to spend four days painting the natural beauty in and around Snowmass. On Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11, the artwork will be judged, displayed, and available for purchase on the events lawn in Snowmass Base Village.
Cidermass is making its return to the Snowmass Mall Aug. 17 from 2-5:30 p.m. It will feature hard cider tastings from more than 30 hard cider, batch distiller, and hard seltzer venues from all over the country.
A concert by Float Like a Buffalo will take place at the Rock Garden Stage at 6 p.m. at the end of Cidermass.
On Aug. 25, Snowmass will host a community dog wash, a new event this summer. Dog owners can bring their dogs to Snowmass Base Village from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. where a local groomer and pet store will provide free nail clippings and treats.
Dog costumes and photo opportunities will be available, as well as a do-it-yourself dog washing station.
Snowmass will cap off the month of August with JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience from Aug. 30-Sept. 1. The JAS Aspen Snowmass Labor Day Experience features three days of performances on multiple stages from world-renowned artists.
Sting, Brandi Carlile, Tim McGraw, Lukas Nelson, OneRepublic, The Black Crows, Michael Marcagi, and The War and Treaty will all perform in Snowmass Labor Day Weekend.
There are also several ongoing weekly events that will continue throughout August. Aspen Center for Environmental Studies is leading twice daily hikes in Snowmass. The Snowmass Wildflower Walk begins at 10 a.m. on the Nature Trail and the Ice Age Discovery Walk begins at 1 p.m. on the Discovery Trail.
The hikes are led by ACES environmentalists and feature history, facts, and trivia. All hikes leave the Snowmass Mall ticket pavilion daily until Sept. 4. The hikes will take place on Saturdays and Sundays only in the month of September.
The Summer Après Series in Snowmass will run through Sept. 29. The series includes music on the Snowmass Mall from 3-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and performances from the Aspen Music Festival and School on the Mall on Wednesdays and Thursdays through Aug. 15.
Cornhole tournaments will take place on Fridays from 4-7 p.m. at the Rock Garden located at the top of the Sky Cab Gondola until Aug. 23. Jazz on the Lawn takes place on the events lawn in Base Village on Sundays from 2-4 p.m. through Aug. 25.
