Gravity Haus Aspen has reimagined a 14,263-square-foot 1970s building at 315 E Hyman Ave into a vibrant social club that blends Aspen’s mountain-town heritage with modern design and functionality.
Located in the city’s Historic Preservation District, the adaptive reuse project navigated complex preservation guidelines and critical building upgrades, including structural reinforcement, energy-efficient systems, accessibility improvements and fire safety modernization. The club now features co-working spaces, private offices, a gym, recovery amenities, a members’ lounge and public areas like a café and restaurant.
Spearheaded by Gravity Haus Aspen LLC, the $7.4 million renovation was led by contractor GF Woods, OZ Architecture, structural engineer Kobe Engineering, mechanical engineer BA Consultants and electrical engineer Front Range Electrical Engineering. Studio Lemonade’s interior design added whimsical, cozy touches that nod to Aspen’s character. Substantial collaboration with the City of Aspen’s Building Department, Historic Preservation Commission, and Sanitation Division ensured community alignment.
Despite challenges ranging from historic compliance to water intrusion and outdated systems, the project preserves an important structure while creating a space for connection, wellness, and adventure. The renovated building now serves Aspen’s diverse community and visitors with environmentally conscious design and versatile amenities that reflect the spirit of the outdoors and shared experiences.
