Art Cart Alpine Rally returns to Aspen with Feb. 8 races at the ARC

Art Cart Alpine Rally returns to Aspen with Feb. 8 races at the ARC

A unique sledding race consisting of custom-made rigs returns to Aspen.

The Art Cart Alpine Rally, set for its second year, is slated for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Whoa Nelly Sledding Hill at the Aspen Recreation Center, 0861 Maroon Creek Road. Registration for the event is open until Feb. 1.

“Now in its second year, the event invites participants of all ages to design and build creatively modified sleds, then race them down the hill for a chance to win prizes,” a news release states.

Food trucks for the event, which is open to both children and adults, will be available at 5:30 p.m. A variety of food options will be available, including offerings from Slow Groovin’ BBQ and the Rolling Fork food truck. Hot chocolate by The Dreamery and fire pits will be provided to keep attendees warm, and DJ May Selby will provide music entertainment.

Participants will be judged based on both the speed and design of their sleds. Winners will be announced at the end of the event.

This annual sledding race celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and winter sports. The event is a beloved tradition in Aspen, encouraging participants to showcase their artistic skills through the design and construction of custom sleds, the release states.

To foster the creativity and sense of community associated with this event, the Red Brick Center for the Arts will host a creative happy hour on Feb. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This workshop will offer space for competitors to work on their art cart.

The Art Cart Alpine Rally is free to attend for spectators, but participants must register to compete. To register for the event, visit aspenspecialevents.com and review all rules and regulations.
